EdgeCAM TRAINING
COURSE OBJECTIVE: Through hands on training teach
the students the operation and functionality of the Pathtrace EdgeCAM CAD/CAM
software.

Day 1: Introduction to the CAD/CAM Software, including its design
and capabilities
Introduce Windows operating system and the basic interaction between the
user and Windows software for File Management and operation. Help the students
get experience in opening files.
Start with design concept of EdgeCAM software on how to design a part to
be machined via the graphics CAD ability of the software.
Explain the ways to draw part geometry and help the students to get some
experience on drawing geometry’s, including lines, points and circles.
Go trough the first 2 mill class examples step by step with students. Start
the students into drawing the mill class examples and saving the CAD/CAM
files.
Day 2: Continue with introduction to the CAD/CAM Software, focusing
on drawing examples.
Day 3: Introduce EdgeCAM Milling.
-
Instruct the students with a step by step instructions on how to create
the toolpath on 2 Mill parts and generate the G-Code file from the CAD/CAM
files. If time permits the students are to create the toolpath on one more
Mill part.
Day 4: Introduce EdgeCAM Turning
-
Start within an introduction to EdgeCAM Turning, explaining the concept
behind how EdgeCAM utilizes the geometry that has been previously drawn
to generate toolpath over to create the final CNC G-Code files.
-
Instruct the students with step by step instructions on how to create the
toolpath on 2 Lathe parts and generate the G-Code file from CAD/CAM files.
If time permits the students are to create the toolpath on one more Lathe
part.
-
Introduce the basic operation of the EdgeCAM Tool Library to help visualize
the tool and the relationship to the graphic part.
-
Introduce the students to the Pathtrace EdgeCAM Editor that operates under
windows, to edit their G-Code file.
Day 5: Introduce EdgeCAM Turning for 4-Axis, C and Y-Axis Turning
-
Instruct the students with step by step instructions on how to generate
the CAD/CAM toolpath for a 4-Axis Lathe.
-
Instruct the students with step by step instructions on how to design lathe
parts for C and Y-Axis Lathes.
-
Provide detailed instructions on how to generate the CAD/CAM toolpath for
C and Y-Axis Lathes.
OPTIONAL TRAINING
Multi-Plane Machining - 2 days
Day 1: Introduce 3 dimensional design of geometry, including
working with construction plains and drawing views.
-
Provide step by step instructions on drawing a sample part in 3-dimensions
and importing other parts to be machined in relationship to the sample
part.
Day 2: Drawing sample parts
-
Help the students to draw sample parts in 3-dimensions and arrange them
in a machinable view so as to create the instructions necessary to generate
a CNC G-Code file.
-
Review advanced machining procedures necessary for programming of Multi-
Plane machining.
Advanced User Training - 1 day
Day 1: Train on how to design tools to be used in EdgeCAM
Tool Library
-
Utilization of EdgeCAM Model abilities (automatic generation of speeds
and feeds Based on material).
-
Train students on basic use of Pathtrace Command Macros for automating
some of their programming tasks.
-

-
Surfaces - 2 days
Day 1: Introduce basic surface designs, including working with
construction plains and drawing views
-
Provide detailed instructions on drawing all surface types available in
EdgeCAM.
-
Draw sample parts for all surface types.
Day 2: Review advanced machining procedures necessary for programming
of surface machining.
-
Cover any user specific applications for surface design and machining.
